The Knowledge Graphs Conference & Community

The Knowledge Graph Conference and Community (KGC) is seeking a variety of hands-on, entrepreneurial volunteer to join the Community team. We have great opportunities for tech and people-person with skills or interest in marketing, web development, community development, events, graphic design, and communications to gain experience in leading technology Community with over 900 active members.

What are knowledge graphs?

Knowledge graphs are the state-of-the-art technology for representing and processing data. As the leading source of world-class content on knowledge graph technologies, the Knowledge Graphs Conference aggregates and shares the newest ideas from industry and academic innovators.

Who we are looking for?

Community Development Volunteer

An organized, creative, proactive, and enthusiastic volunteer to assist in the ideation, planning, and implementation of various Community projects. This role is very diverse, with activities ranging from events to content to Q&A in Slack to project management and admin tasks. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Community to develop and implement ideas for engaging a Community of over 1,000 global followers. Along the way you will develop a strong understanding of leading-edge developments in the knowledge graph field. In addition, you will also get to meet and work with lots of innovators and experts in the exciting field of knowledge graphs.

We are a dynamic and passionate team who will provide you with support and feedback. Because we are a small team, in addition to the Head of Community you will work closely with the website, design, marketing and content teams. You will receive guidance from experienced professionals throughout your time with us and the opportunity to do substantive projects.

This role is best suited for a self-starting, hands-on person, who can also work independently and is excited by the challenge and opportunity to develop a world-class digital media Community and brand.

Responsibilities
  • Implementation: track and execute project tasks
  • Support virtual events: concierge during live events, assist with event calendaring, experiment with technical software
  • Content: find and share great content, share on social media, interact with folks on interesting topics and questions in the knowledge graph space
  • Research: find fresh ideas for Community initiatives
  • Planning: Identify the necessary steps to execute projects
  • Creation of routine promotions posts, on social media and through email
  • Nice to have: Interest in emerging technologies, tech4good and education
  • Nice to have: Interest or experience in project management.

An ideal candidate can help with some or all of these tasks–the role is flexible and can be developed around your interests.

Events Maestro

A hands-on, entrepreneurial volunteer to help organize its many meetups and other event series. In addition to our yearly conference, we regularly design and host smaller, Community-focused, lo-fi events. We also collaborate with other partners and conferences to co-host events, particularly with a Tech 4 Good focus.

Responsibilities
  • Working with KGC and other partner teams on event series design and planning.
  • This will be a hands-on role and involve managing event setup and marketing, event logistics and post-event activities, within guidelines.
  • Researching and experimenting with various emerging technologies for creating great live and interactive experiences. These include event platforms and technologies such as Zoom, Slack,
  • Twitch, Discord, Rally, RunTheWorld (RTW) and audience interaction tools such as Slido, Yac, etc. and marketing tools such as Splash. Your goal will be to explore available technologies to create the best virtual event experience(s) for both free and paid events.
  • Nice to have: Experience creating and producing and distributing video content is a plus. KGC is building a media library to showcase video recordings, which includes full video recordings as well as shorter clips.

Graphic Design Volunteer

An entrepreneurial and enthusiastic graphic design volunteer to develop branding and promotional materials for a variety of events and content. You will gain experience in taking a client concept and developing the layout, imagery, typography, etc.

Responsibilities
  • Graphic design major or enrolled in a related degree program
  • Knowledge of digital media software — Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, or other graphic design software of your preference
  • Enthusiastic about coming up with fresh ideas
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of video editing software and/or WordPress is a plus

Marketing Volunteer

Responsibilities
  • Drive social media engagement (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, other) with demonstrated expertise on how to maximise engagement on these platforms
  • Working with KGC team to develop and implement marketing content and strategy for multiple channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Slack, newsletter/email, SEO/web)
  • Ideate interesting digital content to promote our various events and activities
  • Create messaging for various promotions
  • Schedule and maintain a regular posting calendar
  • Evaluate campaign performance analytics
  • Research and experiment with software, if useful
  • Research growth marketing opportunities and techniques
  • Nice to have: Experience creating graphic designs or writing copy; previous experience with digital media channels; eagerness to develop creative strategies. Interest or experience in developing brand strategy.
  • Nice to have: Interest in emerging technologies, tech4good and education

Communications/PR Volunteer

Responsibilities
  • Hold responsibility for compiling bi-weekly newsletters on Mailchimp (designing template, writing first draft of copy, selecting images)
  • Develop ideas for social media messaging, for events promotion and prominence of KGC brand on knowledge-graph topics
  • Identify external partners, including media outlets and journalists, to promote KGC content and activities
  • Nice to have: Experience writing copy; previous experience with digital media channels; eagerness to develop creative strategies.
  • Nice to have: Interest in emerging technologies, tech4good and education

Conference Organization Volunteer

Responsibilities
  • Provide a variety of administrative support in organizing logistics for conference event
  • Participate in guiding sponsor, speakers, and attendee experiences and answering questions
  • A variety of other skills are nice to have: writing, marketing, etc.

Educational Research Volunteer

Responsibilities
  • Aggregating knowledge technology learning materials available online. These can be tutorials, webinars, blog posts offered by developers, companies or presented at specific events. 
  • Classify the learning materials to represent each technological aspect of this domain. Also include meta-information such as the prerequisite one needs to have to best use this material. 
  • Create a knowledge graph to organize the list of topics classifying the learning materials.
  • Research and implement a platform to serve the topics and learning material to users. Ensure this platform will allow others to collaborate and add new material and topics.

Video Promotions Volunteer

Are you interested in the opportunity to build your video editing and promotions expertise with a small startup focused on cutting-edge technology? Do you like meeting with industry leaders and working with great people in small teams? If so, this volunteer role might be for you.

The Knowledge Graph Conference and Community (KGC) is seeking a hands-on, entrepreneurial volunteer to join the content team. This is a great opportunity for a self-starter with video editing and SEO skills to gain experience in creating clips of cutting-edge tech content, as well as developing promotions strategies such as SEO. It is also a great opportunity for those who would like to learn more about a rapidly growing tech space.

Responsibilities
  • Create promotional clips, from smaller sections of video content
  • Segment topics in videos and add metadata to the segments
  • Manage video hosting environment: cataloging, tagging, adding metadata, linking to
  • Speaker and conference logos and branding, linking video content from KGC to social platforms for SEO purposes. (e.g. Google, LinkedIn, AngelList, CrunchBase, Facebook, Twitter, etc)
  • Define and implement marketing strategies for promoting clips on social media
  • Define and implement video content strategies in support of events promotions
  • Defining hosting strategy and implementation (e.g. Vimeo, etc),
  • May include recording educational content on Knowledge Graphs from our faculty team

Time Commitment and Apply
